10 Reasons to Travel!
Relax & Rejuvenate- Reduce daily stress by getting away. Even if you just do a short staycation in your own town, it will give you a change of scenery, and chance to relax. Typically, we spend ⅓ of our lives working. Even if you love your job, everyone needs time to get away and recharge. I typically like to schedule one big trip per year. This gives me something to look forward to and a reason to earn my paycheck!
Celebrate an occasion - Have a milestone birthday? Celebrating an anniversary? Travel is a great way to celebrate a special occasion! Whether it’s a cruise, a wine tour, or tropical destination, the fun can also be in the planning of the trip. Including your friends and/or family for a trip will make your special day even better.
Break your routine - This is especially true if you have a typical Monday - Friday schedule and live for the weekends. When you do the same work each day, you may fall into the trap of getting bored with your routine. Travel will allow you to break free from your everyday.
Food - I love food! Food is one of the best reasons to travel. Whether you travel across the state, nation or across the world, make sure to dive into the local cuisine. With help from the locals, Trip Advisor, Google, and Yelp, you should always have many options. Make sure to build in time to enjoy local delicacies!
Adventure & Activities - Sightseeing. Hiking. Scuba diving. Biking. Volunteering. Yoga. Rock climbing. Ziplining. Parasailing. Sky diving. Stand up Paddleboarding. River rafting. Camping. Go do what you love! Build it into your travel plans. Even if you are not the adventurous type, get out and do some sort of activity each day. Explore your surroundings that aren’t in the tourist guide!
Family time - Take the precious time you have for vacation and spend it with your family. Travel is always a great way to make long lasting memories with your loved ones. Whether a roadtrip to an amusement park (cue the music to National Lampoon’s Vacation movie), or flying cross country to see grandparents, always cherish the little family bonding moments.
Learn something new - Take a cooking class, learn how to golf, learn a language, learn basket weaving- find something you have always wanted to try. I learned how to make pastry dough in Mexico during a coffee and tequila tasting tour during a stop at a bakery. Totally unexpected and one of my favorite memories of the trip!
Meet new people - Like it or not you will probably meet new people when you travel. Whether on a plane, in a restaurant, or at a tourist destination, embrace those moments of meeting people who may be completely different than you but have similar interests and interesting stories to tell. I have met lovely people all over the world and am lucky to stay connected with many of them.
Gain a new perspective - You may have been through a big life change. A few examples include loss of a loved one, loss of a job, divorce, or graduating from school or university. Traveling is a great way to reflect and/or reset your life, especially if you travel solo. You will be challenged to learn more about yourself and see things in a new light.
Appreciate your life- When traveling, you get to see other ways of life. You may may encounter people that are less fortunate than you. You may also meet people who live an extremely extravagant lifestyle compared to your own. This reminds us to always be thankful for what we have or if an extravagant lifestyle is what you strive for, can provide you motivation. The key is to always be grateful for even having the chance to travel.
